Special & Home Delivery Pharmacy Operations Director (Banner Health)

Summary

Excelera member, Banner Health, is seeking an experienced Special & Home Delivery Pharmacy Operations Director at the Chandler, AZ, location.

This position is responsible for leading and overseeing operational activities of Specialty, Home Delivery and Central Fill Pharmacy Services. Ensures the functions of the department are consistent with all applicable accreditation standards, federal laws and regulations, and state laws and regulations for all states in which the pharmacy maintains licensure. Develops, implements, maintains and ensures compliance with approved policies and procedures. Plans, directs, monitors, and evaluates the provision of central fill and dispensing services. Collaborates with specialty and retail pharmacy leadership to optimize pharmacy operations. Assures adequate departmental staffing according to workload while maintaining expected productivity levels. Participates in developing system standards of work performance, orientation and training programs. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients being served.

Responsibilities

  • Pharmacist-in-charge for the central pharmacy location. Oversees all operational elements of the pharmacy in collaboration with system and service-line leadership. Serves as Senior Clinical Staff Person for pharmacy.
  • Maintains compliance with departmental and organizational policies and procedures, all applicable Federal and State laws (multiple states), and accreditation standards through development, management, and operationalizing of policies, procedures, standard operating procedures, staff training, and audit. Leads and oversees quality assurance and improvement efforts within the pharmacy, including acting as Chair of the Quality Council. Identifies areas of opportunity and engages staff and other resources to optimize pharmacy performance.
  • Ensures optimal financial performance through effective staffing and inventory management, efficient operations, pharmacy-based revenue cycle functions, and managing to budget. Manages relationships with retail pharmacy service line to optimize central fill services across the enterprise.
  • Promotes patient, customer, and consumer relations efforts to deliver an excellent experience for a broad array of pharmacy customers.
  • Develops a highly-engaged pharmacy staff through effective recruiting and hiring, onboarding, professional development activities, staff communication, and other talent management activities. Schedules and supervises staff and participates in such personnel actions as hiring, promotion, transfer, discharge, disciplinary action and performance evaluation. Maintains proficiency in pharmacy technician and pharmacist workflows and job responsibilities.
  • Participates in the planning, development, implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of the pharmacy information systems. These activities may include oversight of database building, data collection and cataloguing of gathered information, and documentation of the process. Maintains an up to date understanding of the process involved in these activities. Maintains working relationship with vended information systems and coordinated with internal information technology team members to ensure optimal system performance. Develops and maintains robust business continuity plan to ensure that patient care and the provision of drug product is not disrupted in the event of system failure or natural disaster.
  • Provides leadership and direction to the direct reports and pharmacy staff, and collaborates as needed with prescribers and community stakeholders as needed to meet pharmacy goals and resolve patient-related issues. Assists with the development of goals, objectives, and programs for the pharmacy department consistent with those of the organizations overall strategic plan. Participates in the cross-departmental teams to develop and execute pharmacy strategic plan, business development initiatives, and other programs, initiatives, or tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Required

  • Requires a degree in Pharmacy from an accredited College of Pharmacy.
  • Requires current pharmacy licensure in the state of practice within 90 days of hire. Licensure in additional states may be required.
  • Five years of experience in a retail, specialty, or mail order pharmacy or similar setting required. Previous supervisory experience required.
  • Must possess good organizational, problem solving and computer skills. Must possess good written and verbal communication skills for interfacing with all levels of staff, physicians, patients and other contacts.
  • Must be able to use reference tools to evaluate patient care and answer questions posed by customers.
  • Must have knowledge of computer software, particularly medication management information system software, Microsoft applications and automated dispensing system.

  • Post-graduate degree in business or health administration preferred.
  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
